HIPAA and Photos

This is just a friendly reminder to ALL students that taking pics while on rotation calls or contacts with your phone (or other methods) while on rotations is not allowed.  Even employees of a hospital or service must have specific authorization from patients and their employer for any photos to be taken and the purpose of those photos (i.e. some EMS agencies allow photos of accident scenes to show to the trauma surgeon at the receiving facility). But even those photos are highly protected.  Taking photos in these settings and then distributing, sharing, or showing those photos to anyone not directly involved with the medical care needed for that patient is a HIPAA violation.  Please do NOT do this at any time.  Thank you.
