Before committing the time and money it takes for EMS certifications, you must be sure there is not anything in your background that may prevent you from attaining your state certification! Any criminal offenses may disqualify you, so it is best to check with the state EMS office if you have a questionable background prior to training.
The State of Alabama requires emergency medical personnel to be licensed through Alabama Public Health. To qualify to submit the certification application, the applicant must have already taken and passed the National Registry (NREMT) examination. To be marked eligible to test NREMT exams, the applicant must have previously completed an approved NREMT training program, like PERCOMonline’s EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic programs.
EMS Initial certification requirements:
- Present a valid, NREMT certification as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic
- Clear criminal history

Reciprocity
Some applicants may already have a license in another state but are wishing to legally work in Alabama. This applicant must go through the “reciprocity” process to attain the Alabama certification using their existing license.
The reciprocity process is very similar to the initial certification process. Each applicant will need a valid NREMT certification and submit a criminal history check form with their application to the Alabama Public Health.
PERCOMonline Training For Alabama Students
PERCOMonline is a CoAEMSP accredited school, therefore it is a recognized training facility for EMT Basic, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, and EMS Instructor licenses for Alabama.
PERCOMonline is approved in Alabama for clinical affiliation agreements with hospitals and EMS providers, however, PERCOMOnline still needs an Assistance Medical Director licensed in Alabama before we can officially sign agreements with sites.
Alabama M.D.’s interested in becoming an Asst. M.D. for PERCOMOnline in Alabama should contact our Program Director at programdirector@percomonline.com.
